The only reason I enter this store is to admire the puppies and all the animals. But the reason I'm giving this place a one star rating is because around the beginning of the year, I stopped by, and there was a dog in the little corral they have, the employees were trying to make it do something, and when it didn't do it, they smacked the puppy on the head, which infuriated me. I didn't say anything because I'm a rather shy person, but this counts. And the poor guinea pigs, they should really keep them covered so that customers don't pick them up. If they're under their logs, it's because they're scared and trying to hide. People just pick up the log and touch them anyways.
A kid was grabbing the guinea pigs by the fur and dangling them in the air as they squealed and screamed on the top of their lungs. And there was a 10 lbs + log in there which the kid kept picking up and dropping it over the heads of the guinea pigs. Other customers were extremely disturbed by the way the kid was holding the animals, trying to take them away from his grasp. When I told an employee she shrugged me off and said if he continued she would remove him. I watched him continue multiple times and continue to look back at the employee until a different employee had removed the kid off the enclosure. Kids should not be allowed to touch small animals such as birds and guinea pigs, and definitely not be able to climb up onto the enclosures
What's even sadder is that we went outside after and they were having a showing from a rescue "operation pets alive". These animals were happy and healthy- a huge difference from what we saw in pet fair. I highly recommend doing some research and adopting from a rescue or a certified breeder.
We have previously bought akc verified puppies from pet stores when we lived up North. 3 actually -that lived long wonderful healthy lives. They did develope health issues later on though. I wasn't totally against buying from pet stores because it saves an animal from that environment. But what I saw today, it was heart breaking. A poor sick puppy in filthy conditions that needs her immunities for making herself better, Not fighting off MORE infection. Urine stain in her white fur on her face, eyes crusted over, swollen shut, ribs and spine showing, nose dry, crusty with discharge. Trying to charge $1200 For a dog that won't last a week there. I don't know who manages this place, but YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A**! I know they need to live in cages, but at least have them in isolation if they are sick! These are signs of parvo or Distemper which are deadly. Pretty good sign they haven't been vaccinated or Dewormed or have been living in filthy conditions. It takes five minutes to bathe a puppy. Even less if ur washing pee off her face. And to clean her eyes. Not to mention the associate lied and told us she was on meds, then when another worker came over, hurried up and said it real quick so he didn't bust her out. Sickening what people will do for a buck. I also noticed the worker in the back grabbing the poor thing very roughly by the scruff when she can barely stand. Even mothers are gentler with her pups. No wonder she is sick. We would gladly take her off ur hands to save her life since you obviously don't care enough to take care of her in a humane way. I bet she hasn't even gone to the vet yet. "She just won't eat, we don't know why" -this is called stress and illness. It's not normal for a puppy to not eat or be lifeless. The worker seemed totally desensitized to it, like it happens a lot.
Don't buy the animals here. They don't even care what happens to these poor babies, I bet that they get these dogs from puppy mills. I was just online looking at their dogs and I looked at this cocker spaniel and his eyes were puffy and red. Last time I came to the pet fair I saw that the PUPPIES are in this very tiny space with at least three or two dogs in each cage. I feel so bad.( If I were in a tiny fish bowl like them I would get scared from kids smudging their faces to the screen and I would feel like I could run out of air in any second from being in such a small place with three tops of dogs in a tiny fish bowl while they are breathing out carbon dioxide and loosing air!) Don't buy from them or you would basically be supporting PUPPY MILLS! All these dogs have problems, but the workers don't care if they does they won't take them to the vet. Nobody who works there will tell you the truth if these animals have some kind of problem! : ,, (
There were also 2 puppies in the pen being "seen" except nobody was supervising. One dog was attacking the other which ppl perceived as "playing" It was actually signs of aggressiveness and that the pups are taken away from mom too early.
Today my husband and I went into Pet Fair to look around. We had never been to this mall before so we walked in expecting to see fish tanks and hamsters. No. There were puppies and bigger dogs, kittens, and rabbits all in these TINY cages for developing animals (they looked like fish tanks)!! Two different "tanks" containing what looked to be chihuahuas were EATING the ceramic bowl that food was supposed to go in (with no food in it). On more than one occasion we saw the back of the cage open and an employee would hold a water bowl for 5-10 seconds to let the dog get water then snatch it away leaving the dog looking sad, confused, and still thirsty. The living conditions are awful for the size of dogs that are being housed not to mention the PRICES!! $849 for a Labrador retriever with "papers" is f***ing crazy. You're making it impossible for this sweet boy to be adopted!! When we asked this employee about the prices she said that the dog was donated to be re-homed. Why would an AKC registered dog be "donated" to this pet store?! It doesn't make sense. They're getting these dogs from puppy mills, I would almost guarantee it. Do NOT adopt from here, you'll only be continuing to support puppy mills. Please adopt from a shelter if you want to save a dog. I cannot explain to you my sadness and disgust for this store and these sweet animals that have to live here. It truly broke my heart.
